Head into THE City

The Meadowlands transit station at the Meadowlands Sports Complex, right in front of MetLife Stadium, makes it easy to jump on a train and hop over to New York City. It’s about a 25-minute ride that drops you off at the legendary Penn Station, in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.

There are countless things you can do in the city once you’re there, but here are a few things you don’t want to miss:

Stepping off the train, you’re a few short blocks from the Empire State Building and Macy’s on 34th (Yes, that one, from “Miracle on 34th Street”), as well as one of Babe Ruth’s old haunts, Keens Steakhouse, opened by Albert Keen in 1885. The likes of Teddy Roosevelt, J.P. Morgan, Albert Einstein and “Buffalo Bill” Cody were once noted Keens patrons, and much of the 19th century charm of this hallowed tavern remains. While marveling at the 90,000 clay pipes – the largest collection in the world – on the ceiling, try the world-renowned mutton chops.

More Midtown sights: Visit the Museum of Modern Art (“MoMA”), Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center, where you can take an elevator to the 70th-floor Top of the Rock Observation Deck.

The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art (“the Met”) and the Guggenheim Museum.

Walk the High Line. Once an elevated railway over the city, this 1.45-mile park winds along Manhattan’s southwest side through Chelsea, near both the Garment District and Greenwich Village. While there, the Chelsea Market is worth a quick stop and shop, and if you’re hungry, Los Tacos No. 1 is widely considered one of the best taco shops in Manhattan.

If you need a break from the beaten path, make a stop at Dominique Ansel Bakery or Dominique Ansel Kitchen -- home of the world-famous original “cronut” (a cross between a croissant and a doughnut). You won’t be disappointed.

Heading south, check out Lower Manhattan and Wall Street. You will want to spend some time at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.

Also consider seeing nearby Trinity Church, built in 1698 and bearing historical significance in the American Revolution and the life of George Washington.

More iconic NYC sights: In Lower Manhattan, hop over to see the Brooklyn Bridge, then circle back up through the East Village and Midtown to see the Flatiron Building and Madison Square Park, home to the original Shake Shack and its mouth-watering burgers, fries and shakes. Steps away is Mario Batali’s Eataly, a sort of open-air Italian market where you’ll find Italian delights from cappuccino to gelato and from wood-fired pizza to wheels of certified Parmigiano-Reggiano, not to mention world-class vino at the wine bar and six sit-down, stuff-your-face eateries.

Should you head north, stroll through Central Park, see the Central Park Zoo, and visit Harlem, and Amy Ruth’s for their famous chicken and waffles, before coming back down through the Upper West Side and Hell’s Kitchen to get back to Penn Station.

Visit Times Square and St. Patrick’s Cathedral on your way back to Penn Station.

And don’t forget to head out to see the Statue of Liberty. Ferries to Ellis Island and Liberty Island depart every half hour, seven days a week, beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET, with the last leaving at 3:30 p.m.

Keep your Fitbit or your walking tracker on during your adventures! Walking around New York City is often a memory-making, record-setting kind of day.
